Dates
Mandatory dance auditions will be September 30th from 3-6pm and are for everyone who wants to be in the musical (speaking roles & ensemble). Those who want to be in the ensemble will sing in groups at the Dance Auditions (Ensemble song). At the dance audition you will learn a dance combo and then after time to practice, you'll be asked to perform it in a group. Those interested in only being in the ensemble will go home earlier than 6pm. Auditions for speaking roles will be October 2nd and 3rd from 3-5pm. We will post a signup sheet by Ms. Dallimore's room (110) where you will sign up for a time slot. Choose 1 character to audition with (your first choice). Callbacks will be October 7th & 8th from 3-5pm. Remember, not all roles will be called back for. Audition Materials We have prepared audition scenes and a song for you to perform at auditions. Please be memorized as best as you can. The MP3 of the song can be found in the character folders. On the MP3, we have provided the guide vocals to help you learn the song and then immediately following is the same music without the guide vocals. At the audition we will only play the music without the guide vocals so be sure you are practicing with the MP3. Choose a character that is your first choice and prepare the audition materials for that character. If you are struggling with any of the audition materials for a character, try out a different one. Find the one that fits you the best. Please use the link below to access the character folders: Audition Songs and Scenes Audition Preparation Tips:
As many of you have already seen in Ms. Basso's weekly update, we have decided to move up our audition dates to October instead of November. There are lots of days off from November-March and the music is more complex than last year. We are currently working on the rehearsal calendar and will get that posted before auditions.
All who want to be in the musical (Ensemble or Speaking Part) need to attend the Dance Auditions on Monday, September 30th. Speaking part auditions will be October 2 & 3 after school. There will be a sign-up sheet to sign up for a specific time slot. Callbacks will be broken up into two days, October 7th and 8th, with the cast list being posted on October 9th. Audition materials and explanation of how to audition will be posted this week. This year's school musical is The Drowsy Chaperone JR! Auditions will be in November and performances are March 5th-8th. Audition materials and more info about auditions will be posted at a later date.
The Drowsy Chaperone JR is a farce meaning it is a dramatic comedy of ridiculous characters and situations. The roles in this musical are an actor's dream because there really isn't a limit to how big and ridiculous you perform your role. We've thought long and hard about what would be the best fit for our students this year. This is the musical we feel our students will excel, learn and grow the best with. And truly, we can't wait to see what our students will do with this theatre piece. Top Questions/Concerns: 1. Is The Drowsy Chaperone JR appropriate material for students to perform?
We have one last big project and that is striking the show. We are getting together tomorrow (Thurs.) after school to clean and take apart some of the set so we can have the stage cleaned for the upcoming concerts. If anybody can come help tomorrow, we would really appreciate it. We will be cleaning props and costumes after school and then parents are coming around 5pm to take the bridge apart.
The QR code should be updated tomorrow so there will be more pictures of the gold cast. If you need another program to scan the QR code, Ms. Dallimore has several and students can stop by and get one. Students were also given a memory program today with the cast pictures that were taken a couple of weeks ago. Thank you for the director's gifts today! It was so kind and generous and we loved them! Another BIG thank you to everyone who made this show possible. We couldn't have done this show without our incredible parent volunteers!!! Thank you again!!! WJH Musical Team Please remember the Cast Party is this Wednesday March 13th from 3-4pm. Please wear your Wonka shirts on Wednesday!!! We will have pizza and a fun treat bag to take home. We will also have a dance party and karaoke! See you there!!!
Here's the link to download and print the cast pictures we had in the lobby: https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjBfLmG Please print them because picture links can expire :) A BIG thank you to all you, the amazing parents that supported Willy Wonka in so many ways through your time, talents, and financial contributions! We are so grateful!
We didn't want to lose the awesome momentum with the Wonka energy that has been present each night, and with so many activities happening at Wasatch through the end of the year, we had an opportunity to speak with Ms. Dehaan yesterday, and the best time to schedule the cast party is this Wednesday (March 13) after school from 2:45-4pm. We will meet in the auditorium for a short dance party and then we'll head into the peanut zone for pizza and karaoke until 4pm. Cast, crew, and orchestra are all invited! If you are on the cast committee and want to come help pass out pizza that would be great. We will be giving the cast some fun surprises to take home. If you need a Wonka poster or program we have several left, just tell your student to pick one up at the cast party. In speaking with some of the parents last night, they said they could take items down from the walls and windows on Thursday after school and if you have a few minutes to help, that would be great! Ms. Dallimore will speak with the set construction committee and figure out a day to strike and clean up the stage and we could sure use help. We will send out an email when we have a day and time. Thank you again for a wonderful show run!!! Sincerely, WJH Musical Team Information for this week as we head into performance week.
All concession donations need to be at the school Monday so the committee can access if we need to buy more. Please take them to the front office. Thank you so much! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0C4EAEAC2DA7FA7-47919283-concessions#/ Please click on the link below because we still need volunteers for stargram sales, makeup and hair help, ushers, boys’ dressing room supervision. If you signed up for ticket sales, we may need to move you to stargram sales because Al Kinghorn, committee chair, and one other person can do ticket sales- thank you! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0844A8AC2FABF58-47105312-willy#/ Monday: All cast and orchestra until 5pm. Leads and Ooompa Loompas stay until 7pm. We will feed them pizza at 5pm. Please see the detailed email we sent- thank you. Tuesday: Elementary Performance. Leads and Oompa Loompas will be excused at 12:15 for hair, makeup and mics and the ensemble will be released at 1:05 to get ready. The performance is at 2pm and will get done around 3:30pm and then we will give notes and then they should be out the door by 4pm after they have put away their things so they can go home and rest for their big opening night! :) Wednesday - Friday: Students will need to be at the school by 4:30 if they are a “grandparent” since their makeup takes longer. The Leads and the Oompa Loompas need to be there at 5pm to get their hair/makeup done and leads need to get their mic and do mic check. If your child is ready to go with hair and makeup they need to be at school no later than 5:45 for warm-ups. Students cannot stay at the school and hang out until their call time. We are busy as a team getting things ready and can’t keep an eye on them. Plus, they need to go home, eat, and rest before their performance each night. Saturday: The Leads and the Oompa Loompas need to be at the school by 12pm to get their hair/makeup done and leads need to get their mic and do mic check. If your child is ready to go with hair and makeup they need to be at school no later than 12:45 for warm-ups. Everyone MUST leave the school after the matinee performance. Please Do Not let the students take their makeup off since they will need to be back fairly quickly to do the evening performance. We know some students feel uncomfortable wearing makeup at a restaurant after the matinee, but there will probably be other students at local restaurants wearing makeup as well. Leads need to be back at school for the evening performance by 5:00 to get their mic on and do mic check. If students keep their makeup on, they need to be at the school by 5:45 for warm-ups. If they need makeup or hair touch-ups they should be at school between 5-5:15. Thank you! We will solidify our strike and cast party day so keep an eye out for that email. Ticket Sale Link: https://gofan.co/app/school/UT84958 Thank you for your continued support with your time, talents, and financial support!!! Our parent volunteers are the BEST!!!!!!!! WJH Wasatch Musical Team https://wjhtheatre.weebly.com/ Add reaction After evaluating the show yesterday we, as a team, feel that we need ONLY the Main Cast and the Oompa Loompas to stay Monday until 7pm. We will feed them pizza at 5pm, which they were very excited about, and then we will rehearse until 7pm. The rest of the cast can go home at 5pm. We just need that last final big push! We stated in the parent meeting that due to an already tight Wasatch school schedule and having to move the show up due to a conflict with Skyline Choir we lost about 2 weeks of rehearsal time and why we are needing this extended rehearsal Monday. If there is a conflict, we understand this is super last minute and please email us if your student can’t stay.
Thank you students and parents for all the help and support as we approach opening night in just over a week!
Parent work night this week from 6-8pm and we could use your help because some set pieces have been broken or damaged over rehearsal- this typically happens as we learn what is working and what isn't. Part of the set got broken off and so we need it glued back on and the paint fixed. If anybody that helped paint our bridge we could use your help to fix a small area on the bridge so it can look like it originally did and a few other items that need to be done- details in the weekly email. Thank you! Monday- Cast picture day so please send your child with their Wonka shirt because they will be getting individual pictures along with cast pictures. Please make sure you send your student with any makeup they want to wear and if their hair can be done Monday morning so they can just do makeup and get into their costume that would be great. Tuesday- Leads rehearsal and dry tech so we only need the following cast members from 3-5pm: Bucket Family, Wonka, Golden Ticket Winners and Parents, Phineous Trout, Candyman, James, and Matilda *Please note that some cast members may get to leave earlier than 5pm* **Stage crew dry tech is 3-6pm** Notes from the Costume Committee: Students must wear all black shoes- no white or colored shoes unless you are an Oompa Loompa or we've talked to your student. Students have told us that their black shoes are coming so we appreciate that because the white shoes stand out and not in a good way on stage. Students need to wear either a black or nude shoe liner sock- no short socks. The short socks don't look right with the Mary Jane shoes, if your student is wearing those. Shoe liners can be purchased really inexpensively at just about any store, but the best price, and where you get the most for your money, has been Ross or TJ Maxx. Students who are wearing shoes with laces need to have black laces, main cast included- the white is showing up like a spotlight on stage. If your student is wearing black beanies or gloves they are blending into the background so please send them with a more colorful option. We have a few Ms. Dallimore has ordered if you don't have those, have your student talk to her or someone on the costume committee to get those and they must be returned after the show closes. Please no sparkly hats or gloves and solid colors are best. GroupMe: We appreciate your support and just a reminder that sometimes we run over by a few minutes when we are trying to finish the run of the show to respectfully give each cast their full rehearsal time. We did state in the parent meeting that this may happen 2 weeks prior to the show opening. If we are running late we send out a message on GroupMe https://web.groupme.com/join_group/98110274/z2JYZmzY The GroupMe link was on our parent meeting Google Slides presentation so if you missed that and still want to sign up, you can. If your child needs to leave due to an event or appointment you can always come in and pick them up because they may not see text messages due to them being on stage. Ticket Sales are going well so make sure you are getting the nights you want because general admission is now open. Link is below: https://gofan.co/app/school/UT84958 If you signed up for ticket sales, we would love it if you could move over to Stargrams or Concessions if possible. Our Ticket Chair, Al Kinghorn, says he can run ticket sales with one other person- thank you! Parents have messaged and said they could come on the elementary performance day because they are finger-printed and background checked so could you confirm with Ms. Dallimore that you can still come that day. Also, the Oompa Loompa makeup is really simple to do and we could use help with that if you are coming and would be much appreciated since we have 19 Oompa Loompas. They have a smear of white on the eyebrows, purple lips, and round orange cheeks with glitter on top. Volunteers: We do have a few spots that need to be filled for volunteer positions, but they are almost filled- Thank You-! www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0844A8AC2FABF58-47105312-willy#/ Your wonderful children were such troupers through a long rehearsal day Friday and they had so much fun at the luncheon. Thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who helped make the luncheon possible. Thank you for your continued support!!! We are almost there! :) :) :) Please check your emails because 3 separate emails were sent with valuable information about costumes, tickets, concession SignUp Genius, stage make-up, volunteer positions that need to be filled for nights of the show and our big push to finish the set this Tuesday from 6-8pm. THANK YOU for ALL YOUR HELP and SUPPORT TO MAKE THIS SHOW INCREDIBLE!!!

If the cast fee has not been paid your student will not be able to get their shirt until it is paid. Please see the email sent out Friday about how to pay the cast fee. Ticket Information: The tickets for Willy Wonka JR will be going on sale this week. Before our regular sales start, there will be a pre-sale for the families of the cast and crew to ensure that they have an opportunity to buy tickets. The pre-sale will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 7:00pm. Links to the sales site will be sent out on Tuesday. During the pre-sale, there is an allotment for each cast/crew member of 6 tickets per show. Once regular sales begin, tickets may be purchased in blocks of 10 with no limit. In the past, there have been violations of the pre-sale policy. In order to ensure that all families have an equal opportunity to purchase tickets, the ticketing committee will be monitoring sales and canceling orders that are found to be in violation. If there are any questions about the pre-sale, please contact Al Kinghorn directly at [email protected]. |
