Weekly Update 3/17

3/16/2025

Thank you to everyone who came to strike the set and put everything away! We got it all done in record time. Also, shoutout to the students who made the girls' dressing room look the cleanest it has looked in years.

This is our last weekly update for The Drowsy Chaperone JR.

We have our Cast Party tomorrow (after the St. Patrick's Day dance) from 3-4:30pm. We're eating pizza, singing karaoke, signing autograph books and more! All cast members and stage crew are invited to attend.

Thanks again for all of your support and allowing your student to participate in this magical musical experience!

"The arts make a bridge across this world in ways that nothing else can." - Julie Andrews

Many thanks,
The Drowsy Chaperone JR Musical Team

Weekly update 3/10

3/9/2025

Thank you for your incredible support of this year's musical! We are so proud of our students and the show they put together. There's just 2 more days for our musical that we want to make you aware of:
Tuesday, March 11
  • Starting right after school we'll be striking (no, not like in Newsies). Striking is the term used to tear down the set and put everything away after a show is done. It is completely voluntary to come and help put stuff away. We would really like the leads to come clean their dressing rooms and get everything put back together in there. There wasn't a chance to clean it all up after the show on Saturday. Students can help out for as long as they want. Parents are also welcome to come help out. We'll be working into the evening until it's done.
Monday, March 17
  • 3-4:30pm CAST PARTY- pizza, karaoke, autograph books and more (all cast and crew invited to attend)

Post-Show Blues
Once a musical is over, it is completely normal for actors to experience post-show blues. Please know that our school counselors are available for students to come talk to. Students don't need an appointment. There are also licensed counselors available 24/7 on the SafeUT app.
Here is a great article about dealing with post-show blues. While this article is aimed at adult performers, it definitely is the best at articulating the feeling of post-show blues and gives great ideas you can suggest to your student during this transition time.

Thank you again for letting your student be part of this year's musical! It's been such a joy to create this show with them!

If your student missed that or has changed their mind, please let her know. Everyone else, please bring a sack lunch to school that day. We don't want students to order food for delivery as this puts a lot of work on our office staff to track down where the food goes.

Concessions & Stargrams- cash only
Please spread the word that concessions and stargrams is cash only. Auntie Rae's has partnered with us this year to provide some delicious concession pastries including a special pastry based on the song "Toledo Surprise". You will definitely want to try all the delicious treats so please be sure you bring some cash. Remember, all concession and stargram purchases go directly to our musical fund and help fund our musical next year.

Cash Box Training
All those who have volunteered to help with Ticket Sales, Stargrams, and Concessions need to have a 5-minute cash box training with our bookkeeper, Ms. Flanagan, prior to volunteering. Please contact Ms. Flanagan to set up a time (385-646-3701 or [email protected]).

Still Need Volunteers
We MUST have supervision in the dressing rooms for the school and elementary performances. If you are a licensed educator or counselor, please click on the dressing room help supervision and if you aren't a licensed teacher/counselor please click on the "hallway help" slot to sign up.
Volunteer SignUpGenius
We also could still use help with doing makeup/hair, ticket sales, Stargrams, and striking the set which will be after school on Tuesday March 11th. If you can help strike (take apart and put away the set) please bring drills if you have them and we will get started after school but realize many of you can't come until after 5pm and we will go until things are done. If you can do a basic bun or makeup, you can help us, and we could really use your help.
Thank you so much for your assistance because we can't do this show without your wonderful help!

Illness
This week we'll be making final adjustments to the musical so we really need every cast member present. However, if your student has a fever or is vomiting, please keep them home. If your student feels like they can wear a mask and sit at the back of the auditorium for rehearsal, please have them come. This will help them not miss anything.

Missing Costume Pieces
There are still some students missing shoes, tights, undergarments, etc.. Please have them bring it by Thursday.

Double Dress Rehearsal Thursday
Right after school students will eat dinner. We're having pizza! If your student can't eat gluten or dairy, please email us. After the dinner we'll dismiss students to go get ready. We want everyone to try their best to do hair and makeup for the dress rehearsal. If there are any parents that are willing and can come help out with hair and/or makeup on Thursday, please email Ms. Dallimore and let her know you're coming ([email protected]).
We'll begin the dress rehearsal with the Wasatch Cast and then we'll do the whole thing again with the Upland Cast. Please be sure your student has bathed as this rehearsal is long and hot.

Concessions
We still have items needed for concessions. Sign up to donate on the Concession Donations SignUpGenius and bring donations to the Front Office by Monday, March 3rd. Concession sales go straight into our School Musical fund and help us continue to give students the school musical experience.

Weekly Update 2/16

2/16/2025

Rehearsals this week
Monday- 2/17
  • No Rehearsal
Tuesday- 2/18
  • No Rehearsal
Wednesday- 2-19
  • 3-5pm Stumble Through (ALL CAST) (Actors stumble along as they go from the start of the musical all the way to the end without stopping or fixing things. This helps everyone get a feel for where the numbers are in the show, the pacing, what still needs work and more. It's supposed to be rough- hence the stumble)
Thursday- 2/20
  • COSTUMES DUE- bring your costume pieces (shoes, socks, spanx, garment bag, etc.) We will be wearing costumes this day and the next. Make sure your name is on anything you bring.
  • 3-5pm Dress Rehearsal Stumble Through & Headshot pictures (ALL CAST)
Friday- 2/21
  • 12:45-3pm Run Show with costumes & Cast Picture Day (ALL CAST)

Costumes
Students need to bring their costume pieces and garment bag by this Thursday. Please be sure ALL items including the garment bag are labeled with your student's name. As I'm sure you can imagine, during the craziness of getting in costumes, sometimes things get misplaced and not put away. It's hard to know whose it is without a name on it. What does my student need to bring for costumes?

Tickets
Students will receive information regarding tickets this week. We've had technical difficulties with the online ticketing system and hope to have that resolved soon. Many thanks to our Ticket Committee for working through all the technical issues!

Longer Rehearsals
Please ensure your student has a snack and a water bottle as rehearsals are getting longer. This will help them keep up their energy during rehearsals.
