Matilda Audition Details

We are pleased to announce this year's musical is Matilda Jr. with performances December 8th, 9th, and 10th!

Auditions are August 23rd & 24th with mandatory dance auditions August 26th and callbacks on the 29th. All auditions are after school approximately from 3-6pm. Audition signup sheets and permission slips will be posted across from the theatre room 110 the first day of school. You will sign up for one time slot on either the 23rd or 24th. Everybody auditioning, including those auditioning for non-singing roles, will sing and dance at auditions. 

Ensemble Members (characters that sing, dance, and act but have no specific lines): 

• Students will only audition on Friday (8/26) at the dance auditions. Do NOT sign up to audition on Tuesday and Wednesday. That is for those auditioning for specific parts.
• Prepare and sing “When I Grow Up” for the audition
• Be sure to bring the permission slip signed by you and a parent 
• A current picture of yourself within the last 3 months must be attached to your permission slip. A photo copy is fine as pictures will not be returned
• Students must be at the mandatory dance auditions on Aug. 26th 
  
  

Lead and Supporting Roles (characters that sing, dance, and have specific lines): 

• You will choose one character and prepare the audition materials for that character. We can tell by what you have prepared if you can play a different role than the one you auditioned for so it isn’t necessary to see every role you are interested in. You may list your second and third character choices on your audition permission slip. If we want to see you for a different character than the one you auditioned for you will get a callback. 
• View the Matilda Character Breakdown to see which character you’d most be interested in. It describes each character and their lines and songs. Decide on the one you most want to audition for. 
• Find the character below that you want to audition for. Click on the name to get audition materials. Prepare to perform the scene (just memorize the lines for that character). Also prepare to sing the song. We provided the sheet music and mp3 track. You will be singing to the minus track only. We have the guided vocals before the minus track to help you practice.

• It is very important that you memorize the material the best you can. 
• Actors will be required to speak in an accent. The default accent is Estuary English or London accent and must be used at your audition. You can find accent tutorials on YouTube to help you prepare.
