Due to the wintry conditions we have decided to cancel rehearsal for today and move it to tomorrow, 12/16, after school from 3-4:30pm. This is an ALL CAST rehearsal as we are going through all of the music for the show and talking about costumes.
If you have a conflict and are unable to come, it will not count towards your absences since this change is such short notice. Have a fun, snow-filled distance learning day! Please sign up for a volunteer position to make this musical a smashing success!
Peter Pan SignUpGenius Congratulations!!! Your child has been cast in Peter Pan Jr. Performing in a musical is an experience that young people will remember for the rest of their lives, and it is truly our pleasure to work with your child on this exciting project. We want everyone involved to understand both the benefits and responsibilities that go along with being in a musical, so we have detailed some of the basics here.
First off, there are a number of great benefits to being in a musical, including: Active Participation in the Arts: Participating in the arts provides young people with a chance to explore their creativity and imagination in a structured and safe environment. Musical theater is specifically remarkable because it is the only art form that combines all areas of the fine arts: acting, singing, dancing, and visual arts. Improving Literacy Skills: From reading scripts to memorizing lines to learning to tell a story, young people continually improve their literacy skills while rehearsing and performing in a musical. Becoming a Confident Public Speaker: It takes a lot of guts to stand up and sing or dance in front of your family, peers, and what may seem like the entire community. Experience with public speaking at a young age gives students confidence that will be important to them for the rest of their lives. Gaining Critical Thinking & Problem Solving Skills: Putting on a musical is a group effort and every member of the team must work together to make it happen. Throughout the rehearsal process, the students will learn to solve challenges as they arise. Students will learn to trust and depend on themselves and their cast mates. As with any group activity, every participant has responsibilities. Please look over the following items to make sure you and your child feel you can honor the commitment to being a part of a show. Attendance: The rehearsal schedule can be found online at https://wjhtheatre.weebly.com/rehearsal-schedule.html . If there are conflicts, please let the production team know as soon as possible. If your student will be absent for any reason you must email [email protected]. We ask you not to email individual directors with concerns or questions so they don't get lost in our individual emails and we can maintain consistency. Unless you have a very specific question for a specific director, please direct all questions to this email thank you! Cast members are expected to attend all rehearsals they are called for unless prior approval has been given. Students are allowed to miss up to 5 rehearsals. However, if a student misses too many rehearsals for a specific scene or dance number, they may be removed from that scene. More than 5 absences will result in dismissal from the show. Rehearsals: A preliminary rehearsal schedule is available at the above website for now until the show in March. We plan to stick to this schedule as best we can, however, some last minute schedule changes may be necessary. Students and parents are expected to review their schedule EVERY SUNDAY. If there are any changes to the schedule for the week AFTER Sunday, we will notify parents via the Remind App (see below for more info). Rehearsal times vary and will become longer as we approach opening night. Students should bring their scripts, a pencil, a snack, and wear appropriate shoes and clothes for movement. Also, please make sure you have arranged for your child to be picked up on-time from each rehearsal. Custodians get very antsy when students are left too long after rehearsal as it is not their job, or our job as their directors, to supervise children left at school after rehearsal time is over. It is the parents responsibility to come pick up their child within a few minutes of rehearsal ending. We know the weather will start getting bad and there are those times you may be running late but we need you to be as close to rehearsal time getting out to pick up your child if possible for everyone's safety. Homework: Students will have some homework for the show, including memorizing lines and songs, rehearsing their dances, researching their character, etc. Work with your child to create a schedule so they have time to finish both their school homework and their homework from the musical. It is expected that all students involved maintain a 2.0 GPA to participate in the musical. Attitude: The rehearsal room and theater are safe spaces where young people can take positive risks and be themselves without the fear of being laughed at or alienated. This principle is essential to artistic growth and exploration. Participants are expected to respect these principles and are encouraged to remember it themselves when trying new things. Volunteering: The most important thing you can do to help us with the musical is make sure your child commits to everything listed above. It really takes a village to put on a show like this. If your student is a lead, you are expected to volunteer to head up a committee (costumes, props, sets, tickets, lobby decorations, cast party, t-shirts, etc). You are more than welcome to find a co-lead to help you with heading the committee. All other parents are required to donate 4 hours of their time. This can be on our Parent Work Day, ushering on nights of the show, or supervising the dressing rooms during dress rehearsals and show nights or double dress or cast picture day. Please sign up for a committee by December 16th. We will be sending this link after the parent meeting. Communication: All information for the musical will be updated on the Wasatch Fine Arts website (https://wjhtheatre.weebly.com/) Please check this website regularly for updates. In addition, we will be using the Remind App to send out important reminders and last minute schedule changes. We will NOT be sending daily reminders for all rehearsals. Please check the schedule for weekly rehearsals. To sign up for the Remind App, please text “@wjhtheatre” to 81010 Costumes for your child: We will meet in individual groups to discuss in more detail about the costuming of your child in the near future. You will be expected to provide one simple costume that will be very easy to acquire and we will go over that in the parent meeting. Important Dates: Please add these dates to your calendars!
Finally, please remember that a musical is a living, breathing entity. Things don’t always go exactly as planned, so changes to the plan will most likely be made throughout the rehearsal process. We promise to give you as much advance notice as possible on all changes that arise. If you have questions or concerns at any time throughout the process, please feel free to contact the Directors Team at [email protected]. and we will be happy to help you.
